Mallard drake in American chestnut.  The gauge marks represent the feathers.  The black spot is an old nail hole in the wood, which is a recycled beam.  The black around the nail hole is the iron stain from the nail.  Chestnut wood has tannin, which is acid and etches the iron. 10” x 6.5” x 21”
